Apply for SYL committees
Aalto University Student Union members now have the opportunity to apply as candidates for the Development Cooperation Advisory Board (KENKKU) and Climate Network of SYL, the National Union of University Students in Finland. In the committees, you have the opportunity to learn and engage in national advocacy work in the field of development cooperation and climate policy.
Advance booking of facilities for the autumn of 2024
AYY’s associations have the right to book rental saunas, event venues and meeting rooms in advance. In this booking round, you can book facilities for the period 5 Aug 2024 - 5 Jan 2025.
The proposed fee for applying for an extension is another slap in the face for students
Orpo’s government is proposing a fee of 50 euros for university students applying for an extension to complete their studies. The government’s goal is to raise the level of education in Finland, but at the same time, it is adding new obstacles to students’ graduation. Combined with the cuts to subsistence, adding a fee for applying for an extension only serves to repeat the same old message to students: you are nothing but a burden to society.

Supplementary call for applications for student representatives in the administration of Aalto University 2024
Aalto University Student Union (AYY) is seeking for student representatives for the year 2024. The supplementary call for applications is open on from February 12th to February 26th 2024.
AYY issued a statement opposing the increase in tuition fees for international students
Aalto University Student Union (AYY) has submitted a statement to the Ministry of Education and Culture on a government amendment that would increase tuition fees for international students and make it more difficult to obtain scholarships. In its opinion, AYY is generally negative towards the proposed amendment.
AYY’s art collection expanded with six works on the theme of peace
At the end of 2023, Aalto University Student Union’s art collection was expanded with six works of art. The artwork call was open to members in November with the theme ‘Peace’.

Check that you still have right of residence left. When your right of residence is coming to and end, your tenancy agreement will be discontinued - if needed, apply for compensation for your right of residence in time!
New policy paper at the student union
Aalto University Student Union (AYY) adopted a new policy paper at the Representative Council meeting on 14 December. This year, AYY has conducted a comprehensive update project of the policy paper, last implemented in 2018. According to the new policies, AYY is a feminist and anti-racist student union, among other things.
Volunteers and positions of trust appointed for 2024
Aalto University Student Union has a wide range of volunteers working in sections, committees and other positions of trust. Volunteer recruitment is open annually from October to January. Volunteers appointed for 2024 will be announced on this page as the decisions are confirmed. Congratulations to new volunteers and thank you to all the applicants!
Booking calendar for facilities rented on a one-time basis opens to the public on 15 December - read about the new changes
The booking calendar for the spring term opens to the public on Friday, 15 December 2023. This week will bring some changes to the payment methods for private individuals renting our facilities, as well as changes to usage hours and rental prices of Takka cabinet, Pelimanni, Vaasankatu sauna and AYY's van.
