Aalto University Student Union (AYY) is seeking student representatives in the Aalto University administration for the year 2026. The secondary call for applications opens on 24 September and closes 11 October at 23.59. The Board of the Student Union chooses the student representatives by 31th October 2026.

Aalto University Student Union (AYY) proposes Joona Lipponen as Chair of the 2027 Board of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL). The Board will be elected at the general assembly in Espoo on 13–14 Nov 2026.

Aalto University Student Union’s (AYY) new student building in Otaniemi was completed on 31 July 2026. Otakaari 15 brings 153 new student apartments to the metropolitan area, providing homes for approximately 200 Aalto University students. All apartments have been rented.

The brand-new Design Notebook is now available and can be collected from AYY service office or Kipsari student restaurant free of charge. The notebook was designed by Wenjia Tang, a master’s student in Visual Communication Design, who won the design competition earlier this year.

Aalto University Student Union (AYY) made a statement on the legislative proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture concerning the comprehensive reform of student financial aid. The proposal is disappointing because it does not solve the core problems of student financial aid or improve the livelihoods of students.

The Ministry of Education and Culture has published a vision for higher education and research for 2040, which is intended to guide the direction of Finland's higher education policy. Increasing the number of university graduates in the young age group to 60 per cent, as proposed by the vision, requires investments and ambition from decision-makers. Aalto University Student Union has appointed Rico Martikainen as Manager of Advocacy and Communications and Totti Korpua as Advocacy Specialist for education policy. Martikainen started in the position on 25 May, and Korpua on 7 Apr.
