Student representatives’ work to receive well-deserved recognition – Aalto to introduce meeting remunerations
Aalto University has decided to implement meeting remunerations for student representatives in administration! The decision will take effect on 1 Jan 2025. AYY has actively advocated for rewarding student representatives and views this decision as a significant improvement.
Volunteers and positions of trust appointed for 2025
Aalto University Student Union has a wide range of volunteers working in sections, committees and other positions of trust. Volunteer recruitment is open annually from October to January. Changes to AYY’s pricelist and rental facility user hours starting 1 Jan 2025
AYY is simplifying the booking for rental facilities by standardising user hours and rental prices. Changes will take effect on 1 Jan 2025.

Veera Kivivirta has been appointed as Aalto University Student Union’s new Chief Financial Officer, starting in her position on 20 Jan 2025.
Nette Rimpioja appointed Vice Chair of the Finnish Student Sports Federation
Aalto University Student Union’s candidate, Nette Rimpioja, has been appointed as the Vice Chair of the Finnish Student Sports Federation for 2025. The OLL chairs for the next year were elected at the general assembly held in Vantaa on 20–21 November.
Aalto University Student Union Board appointed for 2025
AYY’s Representative Council has approved Former of the Board Sakari Ropponen’s proposal for the composition of the 2025 Board. At the same meeting on 21 Nov 2024, vice chairs for the Representative Council were also elected for 2025.
Simo Näränen appointed as Head of Property Management and Sonja Naalisvaara as Advocacy and Communications Manager
This autumn, Aalto University Student Union’s (AYY) management team has welcomed new members. Simo Näränen joined as Head of Property Management in August, while Sonja Naalisvaara started in the position of Advocacy and Communications Manager in October 2024.
Mantė Žygelytė elected to the Board of the National Union of University Students in Finland for 2025
Mantė Žygelytė has been elected as a member of the Board of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) for 2025. SYL’s General Assembly held in Otaniemi, Espoo on 15-16 November voted on the members of the Board on Saturday evening.

Tempaus got students on the move – 3,844 hours of volunteer work in a week
Through the Tempaus campaign, Aalto University students aimed to highlight the appreciation and significance of volunteer work for Finnish society. The goal of 2,000 volunteer work hours was exceeded when approximately 1,600 participants completed a total of 3,844 hours of volunteer work in a week.
