What is it like to be queer in Teekkari Village and the Aalto community? In honor of Pride Month, Adrian Suvisaari, Ines Saikku, and Camille Fourié have written a blog post reflecting on their experiences and on challenging heteronormativity and binary conceptions of identity within our community.

Aalto University Student Union has appointed Rico Martikainen as Manager of Advocacy and Communications and Totti Korpua as Advocacy Specialist for education policy. Martikainen started in the position on 25 May, and Korpua on 7 Apr.

This May, we have been celebrating the ‘Otaniemi on a sustainable road’ theme month. To achieve sustainable mobility, it needs to be affordable for students. AYY calls for cheaper student prices and improved funding models for public transport.

AYY organized an art competition for students, and the winning works will become permanent artworks in the common rooms of the new Otakaari 15 student housing building.

Aalto University Student Union (AYY) held the first member vote in its history at the end of April. A majority of those who voted wished to keep the internet connection included in the rent unchanged and considered Trinet, the internet service owned by AYY, to be important.

AYY has received a request for a member vote and has decided to open the first member vote in the student union’s history. Through this vote, we will gather members’ views on the internet connection speed and the importance of Trinet as a service provider. The electronic vote will be open from 12 noon on 27 Apr until 18.00 on 30 Apr and all AYY members can vote.

We would like to hear your thoughts on what is working well in the student union, which areas could be improved, and how we can best serve our members. Please help us improve and continue working towards the best student life in the world! Among respondents, an iPad Air and ticket sets for Alvarin kesäjuhla festival will be raffled. AYY's member survey will be open until 8 May.

Aalto University Student Union members now have the opportunity to apply for the Advisory Board for Development Cooperation (KENKKU) and Climate Network of SYL, the National Union of University Students in Finland.

Aalto University Student Union’s (AYY) Fuksi Committee and International Committee are raising funds ahead of Wappu to help reduce loneliness among young people. The funds raised will be directed to HelsinkiMissio’s work to combat loneliness among young people.
