Representative Council

The Representative Council holds the highest authority within the student union. The Representative Council is elected for a two-year term, and all AYY members are eligible to vote and stand as candidate in the elections held every other year. The Representative Council comprises 45 representatives, all of whom must be members of AYY. The next elections will be held in the autumn of 2027.

Among other things, the Representative Council decides on AYY’s budget, financial statements, loans, construction and regulations. The Representative Council also appoints the Student Union Board, the Chairs of the Board and the highest officials.

Meetings of the Representative Council, which take place approximately once a month, are open to all AYY members. Meetings are live-streamed and simultaneously interpreted from Finnish into English. Application for the position of Representative Council Chair 

Application for the position of Representative Council Chair is open from 5 to 27 Oct 2026! 

The RepCo Chair convenes the student union’s highest decision-making body, i.e., RepCo meetings, prepares meeting agendas in collaboration with the Chair of the Board and Executive Director, and chairs the meetings. If necessary, the RepCo Chair determines the interpretation of the Student Union Constitution, supports the operations of RepCo committees, and ensures the availability of information to the RepCo. Additionally, the RepCo Chair ensures that student union activities comply with current legislation and the Student Union Constitution.

The position carries significant responsibility, but the workload is manageable. The RepCo typically meets once a month, and the workload amounts to occasional hours, equivalent to approximately five workdays per month. An annual fee of just over EUR 1,000 is paid for the position. 

AYY RepCo elects the RepCo Chair at its meeting on 27 Oct, and you can still run as a candidate during the meeting. However, we recommend applying by 18 Oct to allow the RepCo sufficient time to review your application before the meeting.

The meeting will be held at H304/Opettajaneuvoston istuntosali at the Undergraduate Centre) on 27 Oct at 17.00. Applicants will have the opportunity to present themselves to the RepCo before the RepCo votes on the election of the RepCo Chair.

Application for the position of Representative Council Vice Chair 

Application period: 19 Oct–24 Nov 2026

Vice Chair:

• substitutes for the RepCo Chair when they are unable to attend
• assists the chair at the RepCo meetings with distributing microphones and sharing information with members (social media) 

Additionally, in cooperation with the chair and the other vice chair:
    - ensures the functioning of committees 
    - ensures the availability of information to the RepCo 
    - organises meetings for group chairs 
    - organises recreational activities for the RepCo and the chairs
