Plans for the construction of student housing on Miestentie and Otakaari are progressing at different stages. In total, up to 1,000 new apartments are planned for Otaniemi. Depending on the progress of zoning and other plans, it is possible that all projects will be completed during the 2020s.

These guidelines include AYY’s instructions and recommendations for associations on how to organise events during COVID-19.

The building, to be built at the heart of the campus, will be implemented as a joint effort by student organisations and the university.

Finnish municipal elections are approaching. AYY board member Tiina Pajukari and Policy Specialist Fon Krairiksh wrote a blog highlighting, why you should vote, where and how you can vote, and what kind of things you can influence by voting.

This year, Aalto University is trying something new: Inviting students to decide how to use 12 000 euros of the university budget. The goal of this pilot project is to develop and use the campus in a more student-friendly way and to involve students in decision-making.

The equality analysis of Teekkarilauluja songbook brings up injustice in the singing culture. The recurring male perspective and the role of women only in connection with active males were found to be particularly problematic. The songbook also included violent, homophobic, racist and other discriminatory lyrics. The analysis provides a good starting point for the equality work in Aalto University Student Union and the work of the editorial board of the songbook. Work on the new songbook is progressing.

Door opening service for AYY residents

WappuApu fundraiser organised by Aalto University Student Union’s Fuksi Committee is launched in Otaniemi on 31 Mar. WappuApu supports the battle of HelsinkiMissio against the loneliness of young people. The time of the coronavirus has further intensified the distress of loneliness experienced by many young people.

The Ministry of Education and Culture granted Aalto University Student Union a special subsidy of EUR 100,000 for AYY’s project to support the well-being of students and increase the sense of community during the remote period. Now we are asking you students: what could we do to increase your well-being and the sense of community?

All associations operating within Aalto University Student Union must annually submit an association notice and, at the same time, associations in the 1st list can apply for an operating grant.
