The use of AYY’s guesthouses for accommodation purposes to end
AYY is conducting condition surveys of properties and has also reviewed the use of all student union facilities. According to the survey, it is necessary to make some changes in the use of certain facilities.
The facilities used as guesthouses at Otakaari 20 are not originally intended for accommodation purposes. The facilities do not comply with safety and other regulations, which we wish to follow more carefully in the future. This is why AYY Board decided at its meeting on 28 Apr 2020 that the use of guesthouses at Otakaari 20 for accommodation purposes will end on 30 Apr 2020. The guesthouses will no longer be rented for accommodation purposes from 1 May 2020 onwards.
We are well aware that affordable accommodation is an important additional service for many events and therefore this policy may complicate the overall organisation of events. However, we want to act responsibly and specify the use of our facilities only for the purpose for which they are intended. In the future, our aim is to openly consider different options to meet the accommodation needs. We also welcome any ideas you may have. The guesthouses have also been used for emergency accommodation at the beginning of the academic year. We will explore new types of operating models for emergency accommodation and the related guidance during the spring and the summer.

The proposal for an overall reform of student financial aid is disappointing
Aalto University Student Union (AYY) made a statement on the legislative proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture concerning the comprehensive reform of student financial aid. The proposal is disappointing because it does not solve the core problems of student financial aid or improve the livelihoods of students.
