AYY’s parliamentary election programme emphasises action to strengthen faith in the future
The programme presents solutions for promoting higher education, student wellbeing and sustainable growth, and building an international and attractive Finland. In the programme, AYY recognises that declining faith in the future poses a challenge to Finland’s ability to renew and grow. The best medicine and guarantee for Finland’s future are competent and thriving students who have the opportunity to focus on their studies and build their future.
‘It is necessary for each student to have the opportunity to focus on their studies without unreasonable uncertainty about their livelihood or challenges to their wellbeing. Public discussion emphasises the need to strengthen economic growth. We see investments in students and higher education as a crucial way to strengthen economic growth and competitiveness’, says Joona Lipponen, Chair of the AYY Board.
In its parliamentary election programme, AYY particularly emphasises:
-
Promoting the support system and affordable student housing
-
Ensuring high-quality and accessible higher education
-
Attracting international experts and supporting their integration into Finland
-
Improving the wellbeing of students
-
Taking environmental and climate policy objectives into account in decision-making in a sustainable manner.
In addition, the parliamentary election programme’s goals have been promoted in public debate. AYY has commented on the key themes of the programme in Helsingin Sanomat opinion pieces, addressing the harmful impacts of tuition fees and solutions to the shortage of student housing.
‘Together with other student organisations, our goal in the months leading up to the elections is to ensure that the students’ voice is heard in the national debate’, comments Kerttu Peura, Member of the AYY Board.
