Cleaning instructions for common areas in shared apartments
All tenants in shared housing share equal responsibility for maintaining the cleanlines of common areas. This includes cleaning up after oneself and regularly tidying the shared areas.
It's important to AYY that the shared areas are kept clean for everyone to be comfortable in shared housing. If you feel there are shortcomings, please first discuss the matter with the other residents and agree on shared cleaning routines.
Shared apartments and cleaning
Please note that, as a property owner, AYY is unable to inspect common facilities in shared housing in accordance with the Act on Residential Leases (AHVL, section 22). Therefore, it is neither possible to arrange cleaning services for the maintenance of common areas. On these grounds, this is the responsibility of the tenants, and this is also mentioned in the rental agreement.
AYY hopes that tenants will contact the Student Union immediately if there are any shortcomings in the common areas or if they are unable to agree on cleaning with other residents. You can send a message with pictures with this form.
Please note that the Act on Residential Leases also determines the type of notice the property owner can use to enter common facilities in shared housing, so please report any shortcomings as soon as possible. On average, it takes about 2 weeks before the property owner is legally able to inspect the facilities (permission must be asked from each tenant).
If common facilities in shared housing are not cleaned by the deadline, and the inspection reveals deficiencies in cleanliness, AYY will arrange professional cleaning services. In this case, all residents of the shared apartment will be charged the cleaning expenses.
