AYY is taking steps to improve equity in its operations – new equity plan approved by RepCo
The newly approved equity plan is an internal document for AYY to improve equity within our diverse student community. The plan consists of areas in AYY as an organization, communications, community and events. It provides more tools and concrete ways for AYY’s employees, board members, Representative Council members and volunteers to work towards a more inclusive and accessible student union.
“As an anti-racist and intersectionally feminist student union, AYY is taking an important step in advancing equity within our diverse student community by introducing the first equity plan in its history”, says Mantė Žygelytė, Vice Chair of AYY Board.
Equity plan has been one of AYY’s Action Plan projects for 2024. The process started in the spring through a collaborative approach. Various AYY teams along with AYY actives were met and their comments and thoughts were heard in the process. During the summer and autumn, AYY’s equity team consisting of employees and board members worked on the draft of the plan taking into account the community’s comments. In October’s Representative Council meeting, the equity plan went through a preliminary discussion followed by the approval of the document in November’s RepCo meeting on 21.11.
Equity plan was written to ensure that equity work is done on all AYY’s sectors so that our members have equal and accessible means to participate in our events and operations.
