Results of the member vote have been confirmed
AYY received a request for a member vote on 26 Feb. As a result, a consultative member vote was held to clarify the student union members’ views on the internet connection speed included in AYY’s housing and facilities, as well as on the importance of Trinet, the internet service provider owned by AYY. The matter sparked discussion after AYY conducted a tendering process for the residents’ internet service provider.
The electronic vote was open from 12 noon on 27 Apr to 18.00 on 30 Apr, and all AYY’s attending members were eligible to vote. The turnout was 7.6%.
Of the respondents, approximately 64.8% wished for the current 1000 / 1000 Mbps internet connection included in the rent for AYY housing and facilities to remain and continue to be included in the rent in the future. For 32.6%, a slower 200 / 200 Mbps internet connection included in the rent would be sufficient to reduce pressure on rent increases. 2.6% cast blank ballots.
Of the respondents, approximately 69.5% considered Trinet, the current internet service provider fully owned by AYY, to be important. 26,8% of the respondents did not consider Trinet important, and 3.6% cast blank ballots.
The AYY Board will present the results of the member vote to the Representative Council at its next meeting on 19 May.

A promise of free education is not enough
The Ministry of Education and Culture has published a vision for higher education and research for 2040, which is intended to guide the direction of Finland's higher education policy. Increasing the number of university graduates in the young age group to 60 per cent, as proposed by the vision, requires investments and ambition from decision-makers. In this blog, Totti Korpua, AYY’s Advocacy Specialist, discusses the significance of the vision for students.
