Pest control
Pest control and guidelines for action
Residents should report any pest sightings immediately with a defect report form and follow the instructions provided by the pest control company. Following these instructions is important for successful control and to prevent the spread of pests. If the tenant reports the sighting immediately, the pest control treatment is free of charge.
It is important to focus on prevention when dealing with pests in the home. Cleaning the kitchen, storing food properly, cleaning the bathroom regularly and disposing of waste carefully will go a long way. Sometimes diligence is not always enough, as uninvited guests can be brought in unnoticed, for example from the grocery store with food.
Pest and insect identification
Banana flies
Eradicating banana flies requires patience. You can catch flies with home-made traps, for example by placing a glass of juice and dishwashing liquid on the table. To destroy the flies' eggs, you can use a pest repellent. Flies thrive in organic waste, so it's a good idea to take them out once a day and always wash the bucket carefully after taking out the rubbish. All fruit should be removed from the tables.
Lutes
Lice are nasty but fortunately harmless pests that can usually be effectively eradicated from the home with the right measures. If you suspect your home is infested with bedbugs, please submit a maintenance request using the form below. A pest controller will be called to your home to assess the situation and take the necessary control measures.
Sugar Loaf
Sugar gnats are common but harmless pests that you can try to eradicate at home. Sugar beetles enter homes from the ground, for example through pipes. In dwellings, sugar gnats can be found under thresholds of mouldings and doors, in pipe outlets or other sheltered places. You can try to eradicate sugar gnats with suitable pest control products, by spraying the product in the places where you have found the gnats. In drains, you can control the larvae by pouring boiling hot water into the sink and shower trap.
Fur beetles and rice weevils
Fur beetles and rice weevils are fairly common but harmless pests. Fur beetle larvae can be found in textiles, for example, while rice weevils thrive in food. You can try to control both at home (by cleaning out cupboards and using appropriate pesticides), but if the problem is widespread, submit a defect report form and they can arrange for pest controllers to visit.
Rodents
Rodents can spread disease and damage the structure of your home. Rats may also find their way into rubbish bins if there is constant litter on the floor. For this reason, it is very important that waste is taken up to the roof and placed in bins inside. Make sure that the lid of the bin is closed properly.
If rodents are present inside the apartment, always submit a defect report form.
