The new Design Notebook has been published

The brand-new Design Notebook is now available and can be collected from AYY service office or Kipsari student restaurant free of charge. The notebook was designed by Wenjia Tang, a master’s student in Visual Communication Design, who won the design competition earlier this year.

The Design Notebook, published by AYY and TOKYO, continues the long-standing tradition of students’ design calendar. The versatile notebook is designed to suit students in different fields, supporting both studies and leisure time. For example, it can be used for project management or note-taking.

The notebook designer was selected through an open design competition held by AYY last spring. The competition winner was Wenjia Tang, a master’s student in Visual Communication Design at Aalto University, who had the opportunity to design the latest edition of the notebook.

‘The notebook includes versatile project management features that I hope will bring joy to the daily lives of many students. I wanted to create a refreshing and airy atmosphere with a cooler colour palette’, she says.

The notebook consists of a notes section, planner pages (yearly plan, monthly plan, project plan, habit tracker), information pages, and a campus map.

Tang found inspiration for the notebook design at a Buddhist retreat in China.

‘A blank notebook became my only tool for recording thoughts and passing the quiet hours, as we were limited in the personal belongings we could bring and forbidden to use our phones during the retreat. I often found myself manually dividing the pages into sections to make space for scattered thoughts and longer diary entries. I also wanted longer pieces of writing and scattered fragments to coexist side by side in the notes section’, Tang describes.

The notebook is a free member benefit available to all AYY members. Notebooks can be collected from AYY service office and later this week Kipsari student restaurant.
