Mantė Žygelytė elected to the Board of the National Union of University Students in Finland for 2025
Aalto University Student Union’s (AYY) Vice Chair of the Board Mantė Žygelytė has today 16 Nov been elected to the SYL Board for 2025. Žygelytė was AYY’s official candidate for the SYL Board.
Žygelytė, 26, is a Lithuanian master’s student at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture at Aalto University. This year, she has served as Vice Chair of the AYY Board, responsible for equity and advocacy. Earlier Žygelytė has been active as AYY’s Board member responsible for internationality and as a member of the Board at TOKYO – student association for Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. She got the most votes at AYY’s Representative Council elections in 2023.
Žygelytė is an experienced student advocate with internationality, equity, language and representation matters especially close to her heart. She wants to develop SYL to become more inclusive and accessible for all students.

The general assembly elects the SYL Board and decides on the activities of the union in 2025. The National Union of University Students in Finland represents over 135,000 university students and has impact on education policy, social policy and international affairs.

The proposal for an overall reform of student financial aid is disappointing
Aalto University Student Union (AYY) made a statement on the legislative proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture concerning the comprehensive reform of student financial aid. The proposal is disappointing because it does not solve the core problems of student financial aid or improve the livelihoods of students.
