Joona Lipponen appointed Former of the Board, Henrik Starck appointed Representative Council Chair
At its first meeting on Tuesday, 11 Nov 2025, Aalto University Student Union’s new Representative Council elected Joona Lipponen as Former of the AYY Board and Henrik Starck as Representative Council Chair.
Joona Lipponen, appointed Former of the Board, is a sixth-year Urban Planning in Real Estate Economics student. Over the past year, Lipponen has served on AYY’s Finance Board, and the year before, he served as an AYY Board Member responsible for finance and housing.
‘I thank the Representative Council for their trust. I look forward to next year and the challenges and successes that come with it. It feels great!’, rejoices Lipponen.
Henrik Starck, elected Representative Council Chair, is a fifth-year Information Technology student. This year, Starck has served as an AYY board member responsible for associations and new students. His previous experience includes chairing Teknologföreningen, serving as a member of AYY’s Representative Council, and participating in the Guild of Automation and Systems Technology.
‘Thank you for the confidence placed in me! I’m eagerly looking forward to showing that student union administration is not just dry grinding done by dry people but can truly be inspiring and make an impact in line with students’ interests’, states Starck.
The Former of the Board will submit a proposal for the 2026 AYY Board to the Representative Council. Applications for the AYY Board are open until 12 Nov, and board members will be elected at the new Representative Council’s second meeting on 27 Nov 2025. The Representative Council Chair is generally responsible for representative council operations, including preparing and chairing meetings. Applications for Vice Chairs of the Representative Council are open until 27 Nov.

The proposal for an overall reform of student financial aid is disappointing
Aalto University Student Union (AYY) made a statement on the legislative proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture concerning the comprehensive reform of student financial aid. The proposal is disappointing because it does not solve the core problems of student financial aid or improve the livelihoods of students.
