Changes to the autumn's events
The decision was made based on the current coronavirus situation and the scale of these events. The safety of participants and event organisers is of utmost importance to AYY. Even though the events’ safety measures were considered sufficient, there would have remained a risk of falling ill. The safety measures might also have made the events less enjoyable than usual.
The AYY10 Annual Ball will be held on 15 May 2021. The already made registrations to the Annual Ball will remain in place without any additional measures, but you can also get a refund for your tickets if you prefer. Registration will be reopened in early 2021. The events of the Anniversary Week will take place in May 2021.
Aalto Afterparty and Otasuunnistus will not be organised as physical events. Mass events are currently not prohibited in Finland, but AYY does not want to risk anyone falling ill at an event.

A promise of free education is not enough
The Ministry of Education and Culture has published a vision for higher education and research for 2040, which is intended to guide the direction of Finland's higher education policy. Increasing the number of university graduates in the young age group to 60 per cent, as proposed by the vision, requires investments and ambition from decision-makers. In this blog, Totti Korpua, AYY’s Advocacy Specialist, discusses the significance of the vision for students.
