AYY Board Member Saska Kolehmainen opened the event by thanking the project’s collaboration partners.

‘It’s great that, despite the challenging economic situation, we are able to produce amazing new homes for students and provide affordable housing for a growing need’, said Kolehmainen.

Varte’s representative thanked the client, developer, and the construction site team for their excellent collaboration.

In August 2026, 153 modern student homes will be completed in a six-story residential building. Varte Ltd is implementing the project for AYY in the Otaniemi campus area. Construction has progressed according to the planned schedule.

Guests at the topping-off ceremony also had the opportunity to explore apartments under construction, including studios and two-room apartments. The apartments are designed to meet the needs of students today. Most of the apartments are studios, but there are also two-room apartments and spacious three-room apartments.

Living comfort is enhanced by energy-efficient features, such as supply air cooling and underfloor cooling. Each apartment includes solutions that facilitate daily life, such as:

  • Full-height fridge-freezer
  • Dishwasher
  • Possibility to connect a washing machine
  • Plenty of counter space in the kitchen, which can also be used as a workstation
