AYY Board appointed for 2026
At its meeting 2/2026 on Thursday 27 Nov 2025, the Representative Council approved Joona Lipponen’s proposal and appointed the Student Union Board for the upcoming year. Lipponen was appointed former of the AYY Board at the previous meeting of the newly elected Representative Council on 11 Nov.

The Board, appointed for each calendar year, exercises the student union’s decision-making, administrative, and executive powers. The Board will determine its internal division of responsibilities at the first meeting of its term.
‘I’m very pleased with the composition of next year’s Board. The newly elected board members are highly skilled and represent the Aalto community broadly’, says Lipponen. ‘We had plenty of applicants, and the choices were not easy.’
At the Representative Council meeting, Leo Koponen was appointed the Representative Council’s first vice chair, and Emmi Tuominen as the second vice chair. At the previous meeting, Henrik Starck was appointed Chair of the Representative Council.

The proposal for an overall reform of student financial aid is disappointing
Aalto University Student Union (AYY) made a statement on the legislative proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture concerning the comprehensive reform of student financial aid. The proposal is disappointing because it does not solve the core problems of student financial aid or improve the livelihoods of students.
A promise of free education is not enough
The Ministry of Education and Culture has published a vision for higher education and research for 2040, which is intended to guide the direction of Finland's higher education policy. Increasing the number of university graduates in the young age group to 60 per cent, as proposed by the vision, requires investments and ambition from decision-makers.
