Winning artworks selected for the Otakaari 15 art competition
In February–March, Aalto University Student Union organised an art competition for Aalto students to create permanent artworks for a new student housing building on Otakaari 15, due for completion this summer.
The jury responsible for the art acquisitions was convened, and the selected works were decided by Aalto University’s Manager of Public Art & Exhibitions Outi Turpeinen (art expert), Panu Söderström (Otakaari 15 architect), Totti Lindemark (TOKYO representative), and Brynna Justice (AYY representative).
The jury was delighted by the diversity and artistic insights shown in the contest entries. We received a total of 35 entries, and selecting the winners was a challenging task. Within the available budget, the jury chose to prioritise enhancing comfort in the shared facilities, and both club rooms in the building will receive artworks for their walls.
The selected works responded strongly to the competition theme—Otaniemi campus, the academic community, and its vibrant student culture. For the club room on the first floor, the jury selected works by Caitlin Long and Paulina Solari. For the club room on the fifth floor, the selected works were by Venla Vendelin, Catrin Edlund, and Eeti Ahola. The artworks will enhance the comfort of the building while also being artistically and visually appealing.
The jury warmly congratulates the winners and looks forward to seeing the artworks in the new building. Many thanks to all participants for taking part in the competition!

The proposal for an overall reform of student financial aid is disappointing
Aalto University Student Union (AYY) made a statement on the legislative proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture concerning the comprehensive reform of student financial aid. The proposal is disappointing because it does not solve the core problems of student financial aid or improve the livelihoods of students.
