Totti Korpua has been elected as a member of the Board of the Union of Finnish Student Unions for 2024
Totti Korpua has been elected as a member of the Board of the Union of Finnish Student Unions (SYL) for 2024. Korpua was AYY's official candidate for the SYL Board. The Union's General Assembly held at the University of Tampere on 17-18 November voted on the members of the Board on Saturday evening.
"I feel grateful and overwhelmed by the trust I have received! I look forward to starting to work for a better life for students!", newly elected Korpua comments.
Totti Korpua, 25, is a master's student in Art Education at Aalto University of Arts and Design. In the past year, they have served as a member of the board of the Aalto University Student Union and areas of responsibility being education policy, elections and well-being. Korpua has extensive experience in various positions of trust in the Aalto community.
In addition to Korpua, Akseli Tiitta (TYY) was elected President of the SYL Board for 2024 and Aino Halinen (TREY), Irja Vaateri (HYY), Jesse Häyhä (LYY), Jaakko Siren (Kokoomusopiskelijat) and Eugenie Touma van der Meulen (TaiYo, Vihreät Nuoret) as members of the Board.
The general assembly elects the SYL Board and decides on the activities of the union in 2024. The National Union of University Students in Finland represents over 130,000 university students and has impact on education policy, social policy and international affairs.

The proposal for an overall reform of student financial aid is disappointing
Aalto University Student Union (AYY) made a statement on the legislative proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture concerning the comprehensive reform of student financial aid. The proposal is disappointing because it does not solve the core problems of student financial aid or improve the livelihoods of students.
A promise of free education is not enough

Increasing the number of university graduates in the young age group to 60 per cent, as proposed by the vision, requires investments and ambition from decision-makers.
