Join us in producing versatile visual content related to Student Union services, housing, events and advocacy work! The position is being filled to cover a fixed-term study leave until 15 Jun 2021.

The Graphic Designer’s tasks include designing and laying out the visual look of AYY’s publications and materials. In practice, these take the form of e.g. different posters and brochures, AYY’s annual brochure as well as various design assignments for the visual communications of AYY’s housing section. In terms of online content, the Graphic Designer executes the banners for our social media channels and website as well as some of our Facebook and Instagram posts. Smaller projects include business cards, ID cards, invitations and other running matters. You will use the Adobe CC software as your working environment, and your design work is eased by a Shutterstock image bank.

What we require from you:

  • a professional knowledge of graphic design and layout
  • an ability to manage projects independently and to prioritise your working hours
  • enthusiasm, efficiency and occasional flexibility with the working hours
  • cooperation and communication skills
  • fluent oral and written knowledge of the Finnish and English languages

What we see as beneficial:

  • skills in illustration and photography
  • skills in video filming and editing
  • fluent oral and written knowledge of the Swedish language
  • familiarity with the Aalto community, as this will ease the design of visual elements

You will be working in a team with the Advocacy and Communications Manager and two Communications Specialists, who will help guide your work, spur you on and bounce ideas with you. In addition, you will be working closely together with the Student Union’s many event-organising volunteers.

The work is fixed-term and part-time (25 h/week). The salary is determined by the collective labour agreement for student unions (salary class II, acknowledging also possible education and experience supplements). The recruited person will have the opportunity to apply for residency in the Student Union’s apartments. The AYY Office is located in Otaniemi, Espoo and has good transport connections.

We will be contacting the recommenders of the proceeding applicants during the application process. Please add the contact details of your recommenders to your CV or application.

Freely formatted applications with CVs and portfolios/work samples should be sent to rekrytointi(at) by 4.00 pm on Monday 3 Aug 2020. We will let you know that your application has been received. We will be screening out the persons invited to an interview by asking selected applicants to complete an advance task. The interviews will take place in week 33 and/or 34, and applicants will be notified of the selection shortly afterwards. We hope for the selected person to start work as soon as possible, preferably already in August.

Further information on the position is available from Executive Director Elina Nieminen (elina.nieminen(a), 050 520 9415) at 12–3 pm on Mon 20 Jul and at 12–3 pm on Mon 27 Jul.
