Be one of the illustrators on the AYY 10 Years book

We are recruiting illustrators & visual artists to be part of book AYY 10 Years – Highlights of the Student Union History as Illustrated by Members of the Aalto Community
AYY10kirja

AYY celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2020. In honour of AYY’s 10-year journey, we will publish its illustrated history: AYY 10 Years – Highlights of the Student Union History as Illustrated by Members of the Aalto Community. The illustrated history book contains the views of 20 graphic artists of the Aalto community on the highlights, achievements and essence of the Student Union. The illustrations are integrated into the stories in the book. The book will be published at AYY’s annual celebration in May and will be sold as a pre-order to those who have registered for the annual celebration.

We are looking for illustrators, graphic designers and other artists from the Aalto community to create full-page illustrations to accompany the texts. All students and alumni can participate, and your field of study is irrelevant. Your style and the way you create illustrations can be anything from drawing, painting, digital graphics or even photographs of a three-dimensional work of art. The most important requirement is that your final work can be printed as part of the book. Our goal is to have a wide variety of illustrations for the final book.

Each artist will be paid a fee of EUR 250 for the illustration or EUR 250 + VAT when invoiced. In return for the reward, AYY is granted the right to use the materials in the printed book and book related communication and marketing purposes in AYY’s primary communication channels on social media as well as on AYY.fi website. Each artist will also get two copies of the printed book.

Please apply for the project by submitting your portfolio or work samples via the form below by 19 Feb 23:59. The artists selected for the project have about a month to finish their own illustrations. Therefore, the work will be mainly done in March. The final illustration is digitally delivered for layout.

How long have there been gay people in Otaniemi?

On Saturday, October 11, we celebrate International Coming Out Day, and in honor of the occasion, GAYY’s guest blog explores the history of LGBTQ+ student organizations in Otaniemi. Aalto University’s rainbow student association, GAYY, is familiar to many current students—but not everyone knows that it wasn’t the first rainbow association in Otaniemi. We had some glimpses of this history, but it is not very well known, even among GAYY board members. There have certainly been gay people in Otaniemi from the start, yet the first of the three rainbow associations was founded in 1996. Welcome to a journey through the history of Otaniemi’s rainbow associations!
