Apply for SYL committees!

Aalto University Student Union members now have the opportunity to apply for the Advisory Board for Development Cooperation (KENKKU) and Climate Network of SYL, the National Union of University Students in Finland. In the committees, you have the opportunity to gain experience and engage in national advocacy work in the field of development cooperation and climate policy.

The Advisory Board for Development Cooperation (KENKKU) manages development cooperation projects with a development policy specialist and a member of the SYL Board. SYL has an ongoing development cooperation project in Ethiopia that focuses on supporting higher education students with disabilities. The term of office starts in August 2026 and ends in July 2027. The Advisory Board meets about once a month, excluding the summer months.

The Climate Network is a group of student union representatives and students who develop and promote climate advocacy within the student movement. The Climate Network represents SYL in various campaigns and events and publishes position papers and blog posts. The term of office starts in August 2026 and ends in July 2027. The Climate Network meets about once a month, excluding the summer months.

Apply to become AYY’s representative by submitting a motivation letter to Advocacy and Communications Manager responsible for sustainable development (sonja.naalisvaara@ayy.fi) no later than Sunday, 3 May 2026. The AYY Board will select the three most suitable candidates for each position and forward their applications to SYL by 8 May. The SYL Board will select a maximum of 15 members for each body from among the candidates of student unions.
