Scholarships
AYY has three different scholarships:
- Exchange scholarship
- Community scholarship
- Study scholarship
In addition to these, AYY provides certain field-specific scholarships.
The allocation of scholarships and the scoring criteria for applications are defined in the Scholarship Regulation and the scoring guidelines for community activities.
Scholarship categories
Exchange scholarship
Intended for Aalto University degree students going on exchange. Can be applied for before, during or after the exchange. The applicant’s activity in the community and their study performance are taken into account when scholarships are awarded. In recent years, the scholarship amount has varied between €300–800, depending on where the exchange takes place.
Community scholarship
Intended for the student union members who have been active in the community. The applicant’s activity in the community is taken into account when scholarships are awarded. The amount of the scholarship is €500.
Study scholarship
Intended for the student union members who have been active in the community and managed to successfully combine their studies and student life. The applicant’s activity in the community and their study performance are taken into account when scholarships are awarded. The amount of the scholarship is €500.
Application rounds
The application round for the spring 2023 takes place in May. The scholarships are awarded by the end of June. All three scholarships are awarded in the spring.
The application period for the autumn 2023 takes place in October-November. The scholarships are awarded and applicants informed by the end of December. Only exchange scholarships are awarded in the autumn.
Application round opens at week 20 when final permissions are fixed in application form. Application round lasts 3 weeks and more information will come in AYY week mail.

Frequently asked questions
Exchange scholarships can be applied for twice a year, every spring and every autumn. An exchange scholarship can be applied for before or during the exchange or, at the latest, in the application round following the return home.
Yes, you can. If you are awarded a scholarship but your exchange is cancelled, you just have to pay back the scholarship.
Scholarships are awarded in accordance with the Scholarship Regulation and the scoring guidelines for community activities. You can read the regulation and guidelines on AYY’s scholarship website. The Scholarship Distribution Committees process applications based on these guidelines.
Scholarships are applied for with an application form that is open during the scholarship application periods. The application form can be found on AYY’s scholarship website. The application period of the spring takes place in March–April, and the autumn applications can be submitted in October–November. The more specific application period is announced on AYY’s channels and updated on the website.
Decisions are made and published by the end of May for the spring and by the end of December for the autumn. All applicants are personally informed of the decision, and the names of scholarship recipients are published on the AYY website.
The scholarships are mainly aimed at members of the Student Union who are completing a basic degree (bachelor’s and/or master’s) at Aalto University.
