AYY is looking for policy specialist!

We are looking for an academic affairs specialist to join our advocacy team!

The academic affairs specialist works in the Student Union’s advocacy team and in close cooperation with the annually changing Student Union Board. In this position, you will be able to develop Aalto University and promote student rights, engaging in advocacy work both at Aalto University and society at large.

The policy specialist is a member of various university working groups and interacts with university staff. In addition, the specialist is responsible for the selection and training of student representatives in administration, for cooperation with students and student organisations regarding education  issues and for advising students. AYY’s education policy sector comprises a wide range of issues from digitalisation to study spaces. In 2021, Aalto University will implement the Sisu system, continue to develop student services and implement a new strategy. The policy specialist will work closely on these issues, among other things. The work can also focus on content that matches the skills and interests of the selected person.

In the position, you are the expert in your area of responsibility, familiarise yourself with current issues and prepare advocacy material and decision-making at the Student Union. Advocacy work is carried out locally in the Aalto community and nationwide together with other organisations. Working in the student union and with the university requires a passion for development, independent approach and initiative, effective implementation of decisions and strategic vision. All our specialists also communicate about their areas of responsibility.

Requirements:

  • Higher education studies
  • Fluency in English and Finnish
  • Accuracy and preciseness in the management of administrative processes
  • Ability to understand the big picture and pick up new skills
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to adapt to changing situations
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to interact with volunteers and student representatives in administration

The employment relationship is permanent and full-time (37.5 hours/week). The salary is determined by a collective agreement of the student unions (salary category III, plus any education and experience allowances). AYY’s office is located in Otaniemi, Espoo, along with good transport connections.

Interviews will be most likely held between 2 and 6 November, and the work will begin as soon as possible.
