Apply to SYL’s General Assembly Delegation or to candidacy for the SYL Board!
The National Union of University Students in Finland SYL represents university students in national decision-making. The plan of work and policy paper guiding SYL’s advocacy work will be approved at the General Assembly, where the Board of the Union will also be elected. The 2023 General Assembly will be held on 17ꟷ18 Nov 2023 at Tampere. SYL’s General Assembly offers an excellent view into the student movement and national advocacy improving the students’ daily lives.
At the General Assembly, AYY will be represented by a delegation of 16 General Assembly representatives and their deputies entitled to vote on behalf of the Student Union. The Representative Council appoints the delegation on the proposal of the Board. Those elected to the delegation are expected to attend the related pre-meetings:
11.10. at 17:00-19:00,
6.11. from 17:00 to 19:00,
13.11. from 17:00 to 19:00 and
21.11. from 17:00 to 19:00.

You can also apply as AYY’s candidate for the SYL Board!
According to AYY’s General Assembly regulation, the Student Union Board nominates candidates to the SYL Board after consulting the delegation or the Representative Council groups. The Chair and members of the SYL Board appointed at the 2023 general assembly will work in their position for the calendar year 2024. The work in the SYL Board is a full-time position of trust, where you can contribute to creating a better future for every university student. AYY’s chair or board member candidates are required to commit to the position for the entire year and to have understanding of student advocacy and great motivation for the job.
Applications and resumés can be sent to rekrytointi@ayy.fi by September 3, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. by the address rekrytointi@ayy.fi. The candidates are interviewed on 12th of Sep at the AYY office, Otakaari 11. The possible candidates should be able to participate to introduce themselves at SYL autumn days in Jyväskylä 14-15.9.

The proposal for an overall reform of student financial aid is disappointing
Aalto University Student Union (AYY) made a statement on the legislative proposal of the Ministry of Education and Culture concerning the comprehensive reform of student financial aid. The proposal is disappointing because it does not solve the core problems of student financial aid or improve the livelihoods of students.
A promise of free education is not enough
The Ministry of Education and Culture has published a vision for higher education and research for 2040, which is intended to guide the direction of Finland's higher education policy. Increasing the number of university graduates in the young age group to 60 per cent, as proposed by the vision, requires investments and ambition from decision-makers.
