Guidelines for running as AYY's candidate for the SYL Board

Being a member of the SYL Board is a full-time position of trust that gives you the chance to advocate a better tomorrow for every university student. AYY candidates for a member or chair position on the SYL Board are required to have a commitment for the entire year, an understanding of student advocacy, and strong motivation for the position.

In accordance with AYY's SYL regulations, AYY's candidates for the SYL Board are interviewed by a body appointed by the Representative Council, which proposes the SYL Board candidate(s) to the AYY Board. The AYY Board approves the proposal made by the body. In 2024, the interview and the proposal will be made by the Advocacy Committee.

If you want to apply as AYY's candidate for the SYL Board, please send your application and CV by 8 September 2024 at 23.59 pm to rekrytointi@ayy.fi. Interviews will take place in 10.9. at the AYY office at Otakaari 11. Candidates will be personally informed of the exact time of the interviews. The selection will be made in week 37, and all candidates will be informed.

Potential SYL Board candidates should be prepared to attend the SYL Autumn Days in Turku on 19-20 September.

A promise of free education is not enough

The Ministry of Education and Culture has published a vision for higher education and research for 2040, which is intended to guide the direction of Finland's higher education policy. Increasing the number of university graduates in the young age group to 60 per cent, as proposed by the vision, requires investments and ambition from decision-makers. In this blog, Totti Korpua, AYY’s Advocacy Specialist, discusses the significance of the vision for students.
