The Section for Artistic Activities consists of volunteers who change from year to year but also welcomes everyone interested to join the section throughout the year. You can participate in a meeting, contest, project or any of these according to your own schedule and enthusiasm.

The most visible and largest event is Otaniemi Night of Arts, which has already been organised twice. In 2019, the event included nearly 80 sub-events and was organised in cooperation with the City of Espoo and Aalto University. Thousands of guests attended the event. The participants ranged from babies to the elderly and there were guests both from inside and outside the Aalto community.

AYY’s artistic activities are a rather new and evolving entity. The Artistic Activity Steering Group was recruited for the first time in 2019 and started to create new practices to allow everyone to participate throughout the year. The Section for Artistic Activities will launch its activities for the first time in 2020. In addition to volunteers, AYY Board Member responsible for artistic activities and AYY’s arts specialist will participate in the activities.

Artistic activities are completely the creation of their makers. In 2017, we started to collect AYY’s own art collection and this project continued in 2019. In addition to the art collection and the Otaniemi Night of Arts, the Artistic Activity Steering Group organised a competition for the design and implementation of the anniversary marshal’s pole, collected photos from members and commissioned them into a giant May-Day themed photo mosaic floor sticker at Väre, organised a short film screening in Otaniemi in cooperation with Espoo Ciné, cooperated with the University to create the Treasures of the Archives exhibition, and supported ARTS student associations and Mosaic in the organising of Väre Sleepover. At the end of the year, the Artistic Activities and AYY10 Section started two projects in cooperation. The winners of AYY10 product contest and another joint project will be announced in early 2020.

All Aalto members are welcome to join artistic activities, regardless of their field of study or previous experience!
