The most important steps in a nutshell

New students are entitled to student services at the beginning of the academic year from 1 Aug 2021 onwards. However, you can apply for AYY's housing as soon as you have received a confirmation of study place. The membership fee payment is required if you accept a housing offer. You can pay the fee when you make the enrolment for the semester and exchange students can pay the fee when they arrive in Finland. New students can accept an apartment offer already from 1 July onwards.

Students continuing their studies, in particular, should note that it is not possible to enrol for the academic year during the service break of study information systems between 31 July–8 Aug 2021. If you want your student status to be valid in the beginning of August, please enrol no later than 30 July.

New student

  1. Accept your offer of admission at My Studyinfo.
  2. Enrol as an attending or non-attending student in the OILI service of My Studyinfo and pay the student union membership fee for the period of attendance at the same time.
--> As an attending student, you will have access to the student union member services  from 1 Aug onwards. You can apply for AYY’s housing immediately after the payment.
  3. Pay the health care fee to Kela by 30 Sept.
--> You can use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) from 1 Aug onwards.
  4. Order a student card from Frank. After paying the student union membership fee, the payment information is registered in the Frank system within 1–5 working days (Note! Service break on 31 July–8 Aug 2021).
--> In the Frank app, the student status and all student benefits will be valid when the academic year starts on 1 Aug 2021.
  5. If you ordered a plastic student card, pick up the academic year tag from AYY’s Central Office at the beginning of the academic year. The academic year tag indicates your current student status.
  6. The HSL application or HSL card for public transport entitles you to student discount from 1 Aug onwards. Information on student discount on HSL’s website. The application receives information about your student status from Koski service of the Finnish National Agency for Education. For the HSL card, you will need a student discount ticket application, which can be stamped by Aalto University’s Starting Point (not AYY).
  7. Please feel free to ask for advice if you cannot find an answer on this page!
