Keys

Can I get the keys to my apartment outside the opening hours of the housing office?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. If you are unable to visit the housing office during its opening hours, you can, for example, authorise someone to pick up the keys for you by the power of attorney. The power of attorney form is available here.

I am moving out of a friend/family apartment. What should I do with my key?

A resident moving out must exchange keys with the new resident or the person remaining in the apartment. In these cases, the key exchange agreement proves that at the start of a new tenancy agreement, the tenants of the apartment have the same number of keys as in the previous agreement with the departing resident.

How many keys can I have for my apartment?

The rule of thumb is that one key per tenant + one spare key are handed out for each apartment. Hence, for a two-person household, for example, you would get 3 keys.

Rent and deposit

By when do I need to pay the first rent and deposit for my new apartment?

You do not have to worry about these payments until you receive the invoices. Invoices for the rent and deposit of a new tenancy agreement may be sent out only shortly before the tenancy begins. The first rent and deposit must be paid by the due date in the invoices. The due date is not necessarily the 6th of the month, as it will be for future rent invoices. The due dates of the first rent invoice and deposit are determined based on their delivery times.

At certain times, invoices may contain information on extended payment dates, so it is advisable to read the messages.

I have not received the invoices for my rent and/or deposit. What should I do?

You do not have to worry about paying your first rent or your deposit until you receive the invoices. The invoices for the rent and deposit of a new tenancy agreement may be sent out only shortly before the tenancy begins, depending on how busy the month in question is. Invoices are always sent by email, so please keep an eye on the email you provided in Domo.

The payment details stay the same from one month to the other, so if you want, you can pay your rent in advance.

I am transferring from AYY's apartment to another AYY apartment. Do I have to pay the deposit again?

If you move from one AYY apartment to another, you can apply for a transfer of the deposit. In this case, the deposit will apply to your new lease. It is possible to transfer the security deposit from your old lease to your new lease in almost all of AYY’s apartments. You can request a transfer and check if a transfer is possible by sending a message with the deposit form.

When will I get the deposit back?

The deposit will be refunded to the account you have provided no later than the 20th of the month, provided that all rental obligations have been met and no damage has been caused to the apartment. If you haven't received your deposit back by the 20th of the month, please contact AYY with the deposit form.

My payday is the 15th of the month, can I pay my rent then?

The due date of the rent is negotiable. Please contact  the financial administration with the rent payment form.
