Shared housing with your friend

AYY’s residents in shared housing can suggest a person with AYY’s primary lease to live in their shared apartment. This makes it easier for friends to live in the same place. The person moving in does not have to live in the same housing group as the proposer – they can live in a studio or a two-room apartment, for example. However, their old apartment must become vacant when they move into a shared apartment.

Suggesting friends to shared apartments

If you want to suggest your friend to your shared apartment, please contact AYY housing services at [email protected]. You must include the full name and current address of the person you are suggesting for the shared apartment. Your friend must have a primary lease with AYY, and their apartment needs to become vacant when they move out.

Applying for your friend’s shared apartment

  1. If you want to apply for the same shared apartment with your friend, you must currently have a primary lease with AYY. In addition, your current apartment must become vacant when you move out, i.e., no other person may continue to live in the apartment.
  2. Once your friend has suggested you for the shared apartment, you can submit an application for rooms in your friend’s shared apartment. You do not have to apply for all the rooms in the shared apartment, but the applied rooms must be part of the shared apartment in question.*

    Housing advisers cannot modify the application for you, so if your application includes rooms outside the shared apartment, you must fill in a new application. So, please make sure that you have applied for the correct rooms. If you have previous applications, please remove the rooms of the shared apartment from those applications.

  3. You must attach to your application an explanation that your friend has suggested you for the shared apartment. The attachment must include the full name and address of the person who has made the suggestion.

*Domo categorizes rooms according to the rent of the room, not according to a specific apartment. Therefore, you must probably look for the different-sized rooms of the shared apartment in question from several sub menus.

When can you move in?

When a room becomes vacant in the shared apartment, it is offered primarily to the suggested person. You should keep an eye on your email in case of a possible offer, as the shared apartment will be offered to the next person in the housing queue after the offer expires.

If the tenant who suggested the friend moves out before the offer is made for the person, someone else in the shared apartment must suggest the person for the shared apartment, or else the proposal will expire.
